In many ways a stone massage session is similar to any other type of massage. The stones are heated (usually to about 130"F or 34°C) prior to the client’s arrival. Massage oils are spread on the client's back and legs. The stones are then worked over the body. The client turns over and the process is repeated on the arms, hands and fingers. The final parts to be massaged are the neck, head, and face. The massage therapist can use the hot stones to massage deeply into muscles. The deep penetrating heat draws blood into an area, increasing circulation and creating an extremely relaxed state. As the stones glide over the muscles, tensions melt away. Penetrating heat radiates into muscles to provide stress reduction, deep relaxation and relief from physical pain. Heated stones can be placed on specific body parts to gently warm and soothe. Cold stones are placed wherever the client feels pain or inflammation. This one-of-a-kind treatment addresses physical, mental and spiritual well being.
